I render portraits because we are more important than we think.
I work from photographs, be them old photos of my parents, photographs I've taken, or facebook photos from college that inevitably hold nostalgic value for me in my life as a post-grad. I strive to become intimate with the photograph, to discover every small nuance, to turn a frozen happy moment into a moment bursting, vibrating, and alive with color.
Art is personal. As a poet I learned to write about true experiences. Now, as I concentrate on being a visual artist, I continue to seek out that truth and represent what I know and love.
